Somewhere along the way, we pick up a lot of ideas about what should matter — success, status, money, being "good enough."
But midlife has a funny way of asking us to slow down and rethink it all.
At this point, what truly matters to you?
What lights you up?
What feels non-negotiable in your life now?
That’s where your values come in.

How to Identify Your Core Values
Here’s a simple way to get started:
-
Reflect on Peak Moments
Think back to moments when you felt truly alive, proud, or deeply satisfied.
What was happening? What qualities made those moments so meaningful? -
Notice Strong Reactions
When you feel strongly about something (good or bad), it's often tied to a value.
For example, if you get fired up when someone is treated unfairly, justice or kindness might be one of your core values. -
Make a List — Then Narrow It Down
Start jotting down words that resonate with you — honesty, adventure, family, creativity, service, growth... whatever feels true.
Then pick your top 5. These are the values you want to honor in your daily life.
(P.S. Brene Brown offers a full list of values if you need some help coming up with more (click here) — check it out if you want to go deeper!)
Why It Matters
When your career, relationships, and choices line up with your values, you feel energized, confident, and at peace.
When they don't? Everything feels harder than it should.
Identifying your values is the first step toward building a life (and career) that feels right — not just “successful” on the outside.
So grab a journal, pour a cup of coffee, and start getting to know yourself again. ❤️
