Every January, we're surrounded by messages telling us it's time for a fresh start.
Set new goals. Become a new person. Finally get your life together.
But what if January isn't the best time to begin?
What if the best time is the moment you realize the life you're living no longer reflects the life you want?
As July comes to an end, I find myself thinking less about what I haven't accomplished and more about what I've learned. I've come to believe that the most meaningful changes don't happen because the calendar flips to a new month or a new year. They happen when we pause long enough to ask ourselves one simple question:
"Is the life I'm creating aligned with the person I'm becoming?"
For me, that question has been guided by one word all year:
Intentional.
Progress Doesn't Always Look Like You Expected
When we set goals, we often imagine a straight line from where we are to where we want to be.
Life rarely works that way.
Sometimes we make incredible progress in one area while another part of life seems to stand still. Sometimes our priorities shift. Sometimes we discover the goals we set six months ago aren't the goals we need today.
That doesn't mean we've failed. It means we're paying attention.
Awareness isn't the enemy of progress. It's the beginning of it.
My Year Hasn't Gone Exactly as Planned
If I'm honest, I haven't been as intentional about building my business this year as I hoped I would be.
I know the work I want to do. I know the women I want to serve. Yet, like many entrepreneurs, I've had moments where uncertainty, distractions, and simply figuring things out slowed my momentum.
Instead of criticizing myself for that, I've chosen to ask a better question:
"What's one intentional step I can take today?"
That mindset has led me to create my new Becoming You coaching program, a deeply personal experience designed to help women understand themselves more fully and create a life that feels authentically theirs.
I've also completely redesigned my website to reflect where my business is headed, focusing on speaking, workshops, and coaching instead of trying to be everything to everyone.
And I engaged someone to help me develop a speaker reel that I can use on my website and YouTube Channel. That project is loooooong overdue!
None of those happened overnight. They happened one intentional decision at a time.
Sometimes Progress Is Invisible Until It Isn't
There has been another area of my life that's required a tremendous amount of patience.
My health.
Like many women in midlife, I've spent years struggling with my weight. Hashimoto's thyroiditis, hormonal changes, and unresolved stress all made it feel like my body was working against me.
I've worked with trainers.
I've worked with nutritionists.
I've done the things people tell you to do.
And yet the scale barely moved.
Recently, I made the decision to try tirzepatide.
Some people might look at that and assume it's the "easy way out."
I don't.
I see it as using a tool that finally addressed challenges my willpower and energy alone couldn't solve.
Today, I'm down 18 pounds. With another 30 to go to reach my first goal.
More importantly, I'm beginning to rebuild trust in my body instead of constantly feeling like I was failing it.
That lesson extends far beyond weight loss. Sometimes the problem isn't a lack of effort.
Sometimes we simply haven't found the right approach yet.
You Don't Need to Start Over. You Need to Start From Here.
One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is permission to stop waiting.
Stop waiting for Monday.
Stop waiting until the kids are grown.
Stop waiting until work slows down.
Stop waiting until January.
Life isn't lived in perfect seasons.
It's lived in ordinary Tuesdays, quiet Thursday mornings, and moments when we decide that today is good enough to begin again.
Three Questions to End July With Intention
Before August begins, take a few quiet minutes and ask yourself:
What is one thing I'm ready to let go of?
Maybe it's guilt, perfectionism, or a belief that's been keeping you stuck.
What is one thing I want to continue?
Celebrate what's already working.
Progress deserves to be noticed.
What is one intentional choice I can make this week?
Just one.
Because one intentional decision has the power to change the direction of your life.
A Thought to Carry With You
You don't need a new year to create a new direction.
You don't need permission to become the person you're meant to be.
You only need the willingness to take one intentional step.
And if today is the day you decide to begin again, I'd say that's a pretty wonderful place to start.
